Your Guide to Buying a Watch

So you've got back from the shops with that perfect outfit and all that is left to finish it off is for you to find the ideal designer watch. For watch novices out there, here is a guide to the various types you can expect to find.

Whether you are looking for a mens designer watch or a ladies designer watch you must first make the choice of display you prefer.Analogue watches have a face with hour and minute hands whereas digital watches have either an LCD (liquid crystal display) or LED (light emitting diode) display that tells the time in the numeric form.  Analogue watches tend to be considered the more formal.

Designer watches can be powered in various different ways.Digital watches are powered by a tiny watch battery and quartz watches and mechanical watches are powered by a precise arrangement of gears and springs, which is why they tend to cost more.Bear in mind that mechanical watches tend to lose their time over the course of a year and need to be wound regularly.

The casing refers to the watch's frame. For analogue watches the shape may be round, square, rectangular or even polyagonal.  The finish can be shiny, patterned or jewelled so there are enough stlyes for you to choose your preferance.

The watch crystal refers to the transparent cover protecting the face of the designer watch. This may be made of plexiglass, traditional mineral flass or synthetic sapphire which is an extremely hard clear crystal.

The last aspect of your watch to decide upon is the watch strap (or band). An analogue watch will be made of leather or a metal that will match the case.Digital watches and in particular sports watches usually have plastic watch bands.

The only thing to decide is the particular make and model of the designer watch that you wish to purchase.  Unfortunately only you know what budget you can afford and what style will suit you best!
